3 Thoughts: Reward Gateway’s Yomp Acquisition Causes More Wellness Consolidation

Another week, another acquisition. Reward Gateway acquired health startup Yomp last week, marking the second week in a row for interesting moves for HCM companies across the pond and the third week in a row for movement with overall employee engagement companies. HCM 2.0 is real, people.

Of course, we at The Starr Conspiracy have three thoughts about the acquisition:

  1. The wellness battleground continues to heat up. We said two weeks ago that wellness doesn’t have a true dominant player like other areas of the HCM landscape, but the Virgin Pulse acquisition was a game changer. If you want to keep tabs on a fun area in the HCM space, pay close attention to wellness this year.
  2. Good for you, Ry Morgan. At 20-something years old, Yomp co-founder and CEO Ry Morgan raised hundreds of thousands of dollars and built a compelling brand (seriously, look how fun their site is; and, as far as names go, it’s hard to beat something as sticky as “Yomp”). The best part? Morgan gets to join the company as head of well-being technology. We’re looking forward to seeing what he does next.
  3. Good for you, Reward Gateway. Reward Gateway just went through its own acquisition last year, and it’s wasting no time making consolidation moves and allowing for a niche player like Yomp to find a home under its umbrella. We’ll see more of this as companies continue to grasp the size of the overall engagement market.
