One Helpful App From #hrtechconf

IMG_4459

I’m not in the business of endorsing anything: shampoo, cat toys or ice cream.

But I am going to tell you that I walked away with one helpful tool from the HR Technology Conference & Expo.

TalentBin has an app called LookUp. It’s a people search engine right for your phone. It is awesome because it allows you to look up colleagues, candidates and peers and see their social profiles in a straightforward (and free) way.

For example, I used it to see how I am profiled on the web. Unbeknownst to me, the world could see my Picasa pictures even though I thought they were private. Oops. This profile shot is from Niagara Falls. I was so cold that I had to grab an old scarf out of my father-in-law’s car. I look like a member of the FARC!

Good to know that’s out there, right?

I have used this free app several times — just in the past few days — to prep for phone calls with new clients. I wanted to see who they really are and what they are doing online.

Yes, I was spying.

I can see this being a very useful tool for job seekers, sales professionals and recruiters (even though you shouldn’t google candidates).

There you go. You can continue to use Pipl, 123people or even Google.

But I like this little app.
