Unsubscribing From a Facebook Feed

In 2008, Barack Obama made history when he announced his running mate (Joe Biden) via text message. Remember when text messaging seemed so new?

Just a few days ago, Mitt Romney released an app that will tell you when he picks his running mate. According to The Christina Science Monitor, “The app will have no ostensible purpose after the vice-presidential selection is announced.”

You can download the Romney app here.

Not to be outdone, Barack Obama released an app that taps into his roots as a community organizer and allows people to learn more about campaign events and volunteer opportunities. The app is integrated into a larger database called Dashboard.

You can download the app here.

Not that you’ll dowload anything because Human Resources professionals are weird. It’s an undisputed fact that they absolutely hate talking about politics.

So if you work in HR and hate hearing about the upcoming presidential election in America, I want to remind you that you can unsubscribe from a Facebook feed without disrupting a friendship.

Here’s how you do it (via Facebook).

  • Go to that person’s profile (timeline). From there, hover your mouse over the Subscribed button and click Unsubscribe. If you’re friends with that person, hover over the Friends button and uncheck Show in News Feed.
  • You can also unsubscribe by clicking next to a post you see in your news feed and selecting Unsubscribe.

Visually, it looks something like this.

[We love Steve Boese, by the way. This example is for illustrative purposes only. He is fabulous.]

Once you unsubscribe, your friend will never know and you won’t have to bear witness to crazy conservative (or liberal) diatribes.

You can thank me for this quick tip after Obama wins in November.

Ha!
